Educational Rights 

​​​​Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act is a law that prohibits discrimination by  ensuring that students with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation.​​​

Alabama State Resources

The Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services is the state agency that serves Alabamians with disabilities from birth throughout their lives.

Family Support Organizations

 

The Arc of Alabama, founded in 1957, is the largest organization in Alabama dedicated solely to advocating for the rights and needs of children and adults with cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities.​

The Center for Parent Information & Resources (CPIR) is the central hub of valuable information and products specifically designed for the network of Parent Centers serving families of children with disabilities.

Family Voices is a family-led nonprofit organization that transforms systems of care to work better for all children and youth, especially those with special health care needs or disabilities.
